A CBD pen is a handy, portable device used for vaping CBD e-liquids and oil concentrates. Some come with refillable tanks, while others use disposable cartridges. These devices work exactly like a regular e-cigarette. In fact, oil concentrate tanks (atomisers) are available for conventional e-liquid vapes. The battery feeds power to a metal coil, which then heats up and vaporises the CBD mixture into an aerosol.
Vape pens carry several advantages. If you’re interested in vaping CBD, there are a few things you need to know.
CBD Pen Advantages
Ingestion is a very popular method when using CBD. Tinctures and capsules, for instance, are simple and discreet. Edibles, meanwhile, turn your daily CBD dose into a treat.
But pens have benefits as well.
CBD Loss is Offset
When you vape CBD oil, you don’t have to experience the loss that comes through ingesting it. According to a study published in the U.S. National Library of Medicine, cannabinoids (like CBD) have lower peak levels when ingested. The study also reveals that these peak levels are lower than inhalation.
This is mainly due to the mode of delivery. Edibles can take between 30 minutes to four hours before having an effect, Health Canada explains. The delay occurs because of the time needed for digestion.
Vaping, on the other hand, sends the CBD directly into your bloodstream via inhalation. This means the effects can be almost instantaneous, peaking at around 30 minutes.
Aside from improved efficacy, vaping is also quite easy. Although there are more advanced devices out there, a simple pen is all you need. These typically come in kits and can be quite cheap.
CBD Pens Are Very Discreet
It’s possible to vape CBD without awkward looks and uncomfortable stares from bystanders. That’s why vaping can be such a good option. Vaping is socially acceptable these days, so no one bats an eyelid when they see someone vaping. You can vape CBD discreetly without attracting unwanted attention.
Getting the Most Out of a CBD Pen
Stick to Vaping, as mentioned above, if you want the best experience. Ideally, use a high-density CBD vape.
Aside from lower longevity, vaping generates superior results compared to ingestion; however, this does not mean that every product is of high quality. In fact, the market is saturated with sub-par CBD liquids.
With this in mind, it helps to understand the basics of these liquids to benefit as much as possible.
E-Liquid vs. Oil
An important thing to keep in mind is the difference between CBD e-liquids and CBD vape oils. E-liquids are identical to the vape juices used in e-cigarettes, except the latter contain nicotine. These CBD products can work in a standard “vape”. Like their nicotine counterparts, CBD e-juices use vegetable glycerin (VG) and/or propylene glycol (PG) as carriers.
However, there is a marked difference between VG and PG that indicates quality. Low-end juices tend to contain the man-made PG chemical, which is known to cause occasional allergic reactions. VG, however, is derived from vegetable oil and is not associated with allergies.
Oil, on the other hand, does not use carriers like VG or PG. It is also incompatible with a standard e-cigarette tank. Fortunately, many pens work with both oils and e-liquids. If not, getting an appropriate tank for a basic vape pen is very inexpensive.
Highkind Cannabis Co doesn’t like to use carriers like VG and PG, opting instead for a pure, full spectrum oil. Thanks to our manufacturing process, we’re able to design the oil to vaporise without the need for additional ingredients.
Isolate vs. Full Spectrum
There are two possible types of CBD vape extracts. Isolate is processed in such a way that any additional terpenes are filtered out, leaving up to 99% pure CBD. On the surface, this may sound great; however, it isn’t.
Cannabinoids like CBD rely on the “entourage effect,” where terpenes and other cannabinoids interact with the CBD (or THC) to maximise its efficacy. Isolate essentially cuts CBD off at the knees.
Full spectrum CBD is the opposite. Unlike isolate, the process does not remove additional terpenes, resulting in a stronger product. Make sure to choose vape juices or oils that are full spectrum.
Another thing to watch out for is how the item is manufactured. The finest CBD products are created through highly complex (and expensive) CO2 extraction process.
Always Check the Concentration
You need to know what you’re getting when you use your vape pen. That’s why it’s important to check the concentration. These can range from as little as 50mg to easily over 1,000mg. Higher concentrations are, naturally, more expensive.
