CBD has exploded on to the market, and by now you will have either seen it advertised in your favourite health shops or heard about it through your friends. But what is it and what is it good for? Here’s our breakdown of CBD and how it could improve your well-being.

What is CBD?

CBD (cannabidiol) is a chemical compound found in the cannabis plant. It is one of over 100 compounds (known as cannabinoids) that make up the plant and is also one of the most prevalent.

Unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is usually extracted from hemp, which is a close cousin of the cannabis plant. It is extracted from hemp as this plant contains very low levels of THC and high levels of CBD.

What is the difference between CBD and THC?

The main difference between CBD and THC is that CBD will not make you high. That is why CBD is fully legal in the UK, whereas THC is not.

What is CBD good for?

There is an enormous amount of research currently being done into CBD and how it could help to treat a number of health issues. Whilst it is not currently recognised as an officially regulated medicine, many studies have found that CBD is effective at treating a number of health issues, such as anxiety, sleep disorders, depression and pain.

This is because CBD reacts with your body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), which helps with a number of bodily functions, including your sleep, mood, pain management and immune system response. CBD can have a number of benefits on these areas because it binds with the receptors in your ECS. You can read more about this here.

Whilst there are many more studies to be conducted in this area, we believe that these will only prove how effective CBD can really be in treating health conditions. Ultimately, CBD is a miracle compound of the hemp plant and its full potential will soon be realised.
